This course, Seating and Mobility for the Pediatric Population, reviews specific positioning considerations when working with children. The presenter discusses how to determine if a child is positioned adequately in their current seating as well as alternative positioning options. The importance of early mobility provision and strategies to determine if a child is ready for a power mobility device are reviewed. If the child is not yet ready, specific strategies to develop those skills are presented. If a child is ready, the power mobility assessment process is addressed. A wide variety of alternative power wheelchair driving methods are covered along with clinical indicators. Finally, mobility training to optimize driving skills after equipment delivery is reviewed.
